Hannity just tried to blame a top Democrat for today’s newsroom massacre on the radio

The building of the Capitol Gazette hadn’t even been fully evacuated before the right-wing media spin machine kicked into gear, getting a headstart on how they would whitewash and excuse yet another horrifying mass shooting, this time targeting journalists at a newspaper.

FOX News host Sean Hannity immediately took to his radio show to place blame for the shooting, which was committed by a white man in his 20s, on Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), the firebrand politician who this weekend had called for direct action and protest against members of the Trump administration in response to the appalling cruelty they have inflicted on innocent undocumented migrants.

“It’s so sad that there are so many sick, demented, and evil people in this world. It really is sad. You know imagine you go to work and this is what you’re dealing with today, some crazy person comes in… and I’m not turning this into a gun debate, I know that’s where the media will be in 30 seconds from now. That’s not it.

You know, as I’ve always said, I mean honestly—I’ve been saying now for days that something horrible was going to happen because of the rhetoric. Really, Maxine?

You want people to create—‘call your friends, get in their faces,’ and Obama said that too. ‘Get in their faces, call them out, call your friends, get protesters, follow them into restaurants and shopping malls,’ and wherever else she said.”

The hypocrisy of his preposterous statements is unbelievable. Hannity has been one of the Trump administration’s loudest cheerleaders, unabashedly parroting everything the President says and using his television and radio shows as a soapbox to perpetuate Trump’s demonization of the “fake news” media and cultivating an atmosphere of intense hostility against all non-conservative media sources.

“They are frauds, they are partisan hacks, and nothing more than an extension of the Democratic Party!” he railed against the “news” after it was discovered that he had been engaging in a far-reaching housing scam with Trump lawyer Michael Cohen.

After a disastrous interview with Rudy Giuliani, he labeled them “abusive” and “biased”:

“If you can believe it, all the news we just laid out for you, all those crucial developments that you just watched that we aired last night live on this program, were largely ignored by the abusively biased news media in this country. Instead, for 24 hours these lazy, these abusively biased echo chamber people in the fake news overpaid media have been erupting over only one 30-second clip again and again and again.”

And so on and so forth.

It is beyond infuriating to hear him try to blame Maxine Waters while bearing no responsibility for riling up an unstable and heavily armed viewership against the media – almost as frustrating as it was to remember that the media spent the entire past week debating whether or not it was acceptable to refuse to serve pathological liar and fascist enabler Sarah Huckabee Sanders an overpriced organic cheese plate.
