With public shaming now making its biggest comeback since the days of the pillory, encountering a Trump official outside of a government building has become like watching Queen Cersei do the walk of shame on Game of Thrones.
In case you missed it, both Kristjen Neilsen, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, and Stephen Miller, a senior White House advisor on immigration policy, were interrupted by protestors while trying to eat out in upscale Mexican restaurants last week, and White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and her family were asked to leave a Virginia restaurant when the owner’s conscience wouldn’t allow her to serve the “Trump’s mouthpiece” in her establishment.
Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA) is all on board with this trend of holding Trump officials publicly accountable for the results of their heinous policies and urged the people at a Los Angeles rally yesterday to continue to do so.

“I have no sympathy for these people that are in this administration who know it is wrong what they’re doing on so many fronts but they tend to not want to confront this president,” Waters told the assembled crowd.
“For these members of his cabinet who remain and try to defend him they’re not going to be able to go to a restaurant, they’re not going to be able to stop at a gas station, they’re not going to be able to shop at a department store, the people are going to turn on them, they’re going to protest, they’re going to absolutely harass them until they decide that they’re going to tell the president ‘no I can’t hang with you, this is wrong this is unconscionable and we can’t keep doing this to children,'” she continued.
Asking Republicans to accept the personal responsibility they love to prescribe to everyone else as the solution to the nation’s problems, Congresswoman Waters turned the tables on a Republican party that has dropped the pretense of a moral high ground for blatant, self-interested storm-trooper tactics that violate every moral code known to organized religion and simple humanism alike.
Waters’ faith in the American people to continue to press the administration to reverse course through direct confrontation with the president’s flunkies is admirable. Let’s make sure that we are worthy of that faith by keeping the pressure as tight as we can, at every available opportunity.
