Trump just launched a disgusting lie-filled attack on Germany’s Angela Merkel

It appears that the wave of public outrage over President Trump’s policy of separating immigrant children from their parents and throwing them into cages is finally hitting home.

On the defensive, a petulant and infuriated President Trump – or white nationalist advisor Stephen Miller, tweeting for him behind the scenes – took to Twitter to demonize immigrants and attacked Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government in Germany for their humane immigration policies.

In his Twitterstorm, the “President” made disgusting false allegations about the effects of immigration on German society and openly parroted neo-Nazi fears about the dilution of “European culture” (meaning white and Christian) by immigrants.

Crime has not risen in Germany; on the contrary, despite the lurid and largely false horror stories concocted by shameless racism factory Breitbart News and their more extreme companions like InfoWars about “no-go zones” and epidemics of mass rapes by Muslim refugees, crime in Germany is at the lowest level since 1992, having seen a 5.1% drop in just the last year.

While it’s true the right-wing factions within Germany’s ruling coalition are none too pleased with Merkel’s open-door immigration policy, their animosity is largely motivated by the same racism that Trump’s is.

Angela Merkel’s Germany has been a beacon of solace for nearly a million refugees fleeing the horrifying violence of the Syrian Civil War, as opposed to the United States, which has taken in just 11 refugees so far this year and only 18,000 in total out of the 5.6 million Syrians who have fled the devastating barrel bombs of the Assad regime and the draconian severity of the al-Qaeda dominated rebel groups.

The President’s latest attack on Angela Merkel’s policies is not only a display of appalling racism but yet another hammer blow to our relationship with Germany, one of the core alliances that determines the balance of power in Europe and a relationship whose collapse would be much to the benefit of Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

This escalation of both naked dog-whistling and of the burgeoning feud with yet another of our closest allies is a clear sign that we are entering a new, somehow even darker phase of the Trump administration – and we must not allow these appalling remarks to go unchallenged.
