House Republicans have been pretending to be in open revolt against their lame duck Speaker and demanding a bill to protect DREAMers while the reality is a sinister plot to attack immigrants.
Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-FL) is leading the fight to build Trump’s wall as a response to the national crisis that the President is causing by separating legitimate refugee families when they seek asylum in the United States. The bill would fix Trump’s self-made crisis of separated families at the border, but it would trap DREAMers in a paperwork maze to become citizens unlike the “clean Dream Act” that Democrats are demanding.

Fake moderate Republicans packaged a bill adding major restrictions on new immigrants and have dramatically demanded a vote solely to take home a cynical political point for the midterm elections. Miami New Times reports:
The text of the “immigration compromise” that Curbelo fought so hard to draft is finally here, and as many people already predicted, it sucks. First, the good: The bill, if passed, would ban the Department of Homeland Security from separating parents from their children at the border.
Unfortunately, that’s basically the only “moderate” provision here. Though the bill technically provides a new path to citizenship for the nation’s 1.8 million Dreamers, that path is really difficult and circuitous
The rest of the bill reads like a xenophobe’s wet dream. To find a “compromise” with the racists and immigration hawks, Curbelo apparently agreed to some really draconian cuts to the American immigration system.
There’s no low that the GOP won’t test in their quest to turn America into a jingoistic police state for their goal of terrorizing people of color.
Republicans have been conditioned to demand violence at the border and they love Donald Trump. That is why there is really no such thing as a “moderate Republican” today.
House Republicans like Carlos Curbelo are nothing more than Trump-enabling Vichy Republicans, who are willing to sell their souls for a few nickels to support fascism.

So: @RepCurbelo's much-ballyhooed DACA "fix" places Dreamers in a new, "merit-based" visa pool, and in exchange massively cuts legal immigration, makes it harder to apply for asylum, and funds the border wall https://t.co/26B3g9TnAr
