President Trump returned from his summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un today. While it’s still unclear what, if anything, will actually come from the photo-op heavy event, so far it looks like the president failed to get any concrete commitments from Kim.

Now that’s he finished playing dress-up as an international diplomat, Trump has jumped right back into his worst, pettiest habits. This morning he took to Twitter to rant about the “Fake News” singling out NBC and CNN in particular.

He whined that news networks are trying to undermine his “deal with North Korea” although the piece of paper he signed with Kim hardly constitutes a deal since it failed to list any kind of timetable or specific actions. It really is little more than a statement of goodwill so far, containing the kind of general promises that North Korea has backtracked on in the past.

Trump ended the tweet by proclaiming that “Our Country’s [sic] biggest enemy is the Fake News so easily promulgated by fools.” The President of United States has now escalated his war on the First Amendment and free press so drastically that he is making the absurd claim that unflattering but fair coverage of his administration is the biggest threat America faces.

No, not Russia, which attacked our 2016 election and actively strives to weaken our national interests abroad. No, not China, which continues to steal our technologies at an alarming rate even as it pursues more overtly bellicose operations in the Pacific. Not, not even international terrorists, who seek to murder and maim not only Americans but innocents the world over. Trump claims the press is our greatest enemy.
Not only is Trump’s undemocratic rhetoric dangerous to the free press, it’s a distraction from those in the world who pose real threats to the United States. In his self-serving efforts to stroke his ego by attacking reporters he does a grave disservice to this country.
So funny to watch the Fake News, especially NBC and CNN. They are fighting hard to downplay the deal with North Korea. 500 days ago they would have “begged” for this deal-looked like war would break out. Our Country’s biggest enemy is the Fake News so easily promulgated by fools!
