Alec Baldwin has played Donald Trump often enough on Saturday Night Live that he now thinks he could beat the president at his own game.
In an interview with Howard Stern, the noted actor told the Sirius/XM host that:
“If I ran I would win.”
“I would absolutely win. One thousand percent I would win.”
“If I ran for president, I would win,” Baldwin repeated. “Hands down I would win. It would be the funniest, most exciting, most crazy campaign.”
When Stern suggested that he actually run while doing his Trump impersonation so “that way everyone will have everything,” Baldwin responded with a more thoughtful reply.

“Somebody great is going to come up” for the Democrats ahead of 2020, Baldwin said, adding that he’d love to run “to just have things be very common-sense.”
“There are so many things this county needs to do that are so obvious,” he said.
On paper, Balwin is no less qualified than Trump for the office of the presidency, although his intelligence, demeanor, and ability to tell the truth when not impersonating the president give Baldwin a considerable edge in a hypothetical match-up. That plus the fact that Baldwin is the more likely of the two to not be in prison when the 2020 presidential race is being fought.
