Yesterday saw an unprecedented escalation of the feud between President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as the two traded threats of retaliatory tariffs and personal jabs at the conclusion of the G7 economic summit, which Trump didn’t even have the courtesy to stay to the end of.
“Canadians: we’re polite, we’re reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around!” warned Trudeau to the mandarin mogul, who then took to Twitter to trash him as “dishonest and weak” before declaring that he was “un-signing” the G7 communique and vowing vengeance on our closest neighbor and ally in a petulant show of rage.
PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our @G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that, “US Tariffs were kind of insulting” and he “will not be pushed around.” Very dishonest & weak. Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy!

Such disrespect and childishness are very unbecoming of the President of the United States, and yesterday’s events have rightfully caused an outpouring of dismay and derision from America’s political establishment.
Former CIA Director John Brennan took to Twitter and roundly lambasted the president for his uncalled-for rudeness and reckless policy decisions – and had an important message for the rest of the world:
Your wrong-headed protectionist policies & antics are damaging our global standing as well as our national interests. Your worldview does not represent American ideals. To allies & friends: Be patient, Mr. Trump is a temporary aberration. The America you once knew will return. https://t.co/7qHthq2GuT

While he’s right that Trump is thankfully just a temporary aberration, it remains to be seen if the America they “once knew” will ever be able to make up for the damage this narcissistic thug has wrought on our international reputation.
