Today, President Trump departed for Texas to meet with the families of Santa Fe shooting victims. The tragedy occurred almost two weeks ago, and he is just finally visiting them now.
As he was preparing to depart, the president stopped briefly to talk with reporters and took the opportunity to make a disgustingly callous statement.
“We’re going to have a little fun today. Thank you very much,” Trump said, as if there could possibly be anything fun about consoling mourning families.”
Like any right minded person who heard these comments, California gubernatorial candidate Gavin Newsom was shocked and appalled. He immediately took to Twitter and issued a blistering response.
These families lost their children to a tragic shooting and you have done nothing to prevent another from occurring. You should be mournful, ashamed, and embarrassed.
These families deserve better. https://t.co/VlTcUjfYk9

“…fun?,” his tweet begins. “These families lost their children to a tragic shooting and you have done nothing to prevent another from occurring. You should be mournful, ashamed, and embarrassed.”
“These families deserve better,” he concluded, before linking to the original tweet with the president delivering these horrid remarks, which you can see below.
The mass shooting in Santa Fe, Texas, was just the latest in a string that Trump has overseen as president. The tragedy comes on the heels of the Parkland, Florida tragedy that garnered national attention for the backlash against the NRA and the Republican Party that the surviving students fueled.
Despite spending most weekends at Mar-a-Lago in nearby West Palm Beach, Florida, President Trump never made an official visit to the Parkland school because he fears showing up anywhere he might not be greeted the way his minions at his ludicrous rallies do. He chose instead to sneak into a local hospital to visit hand picked survivors and their families.
Because the survivors of the Santa Fe, Texas shooting have not been as vocal or visible in the aftermath of their tragedy – which is totally their right – President Trump must feel it’s safe to show his face.
