Sally Field has long been a progressive champion, from the early days of her career when she stunned the world in her portrayal of Norma Rae in the film of the same name, to her unwavering support of her openly gay son Sam, even going so far as to try to set him up with Olympic darling and Mike Pence nemesis Adam Rippon, so it was really no surprise when she took to Twitter to weigh in on the controversy surrounding Samantha Bee’s off-color comment toward horrible person with a good nose job Ivanka Trump.

On her Wednesday night show Full Frontal, Bee slammed Ivanka’s insensitive Memorial Day tweet featuring her with her son (before handing him back off to his nannies) as her father’s administration continues to separate children from their parents at the border.

After Tuesday saw Roseanne Barr face-plant from grace, the right-wing shills came out hard against Bee and her comment. Though it was admittedly questionable language, there is no parallel from what Bee said to the racism Barr has regularly espoused since she created her Twitter account several years ago.
Not one to let injustices unacknowledged, Field chose to step in:
I like Samantha Bee a lot, but she is flat wrong to call Ivanka a cunt.
Cunts are powerful, beautiful, nurturing and honest.

“I like Samantha Bee a lot,” she begins. “But she is flat wrong to call Ivanka a c**t,” she continues, almost appearing to agree with the racist right.

Instead, she finished the tweet by brilliantly contextualizing the original intent of Bee’s joke, to show Ivanka’s glaring disrespect for migrant mothers losing their children at the border.

“C**ts are powerful, beautiful, nurturing and honest,” she proclaimed, bringing Ivanka’s crocodile tears to a dusty halt.
She also managed to simultaneously show support for the immigrants experiencing the horrible conditions ICE has put them through for decades with a whole new level of horrors courtesy of Donald Trump.
It should also be noted that, though the word in question was censored for this article, Field chose to use it, uncensored, twice in her tweet. That kind of bravery in the face of the right’s every-growing hatred of anything different from them is exactly what the world needs during the Trump era.
There really is no denying it, Sally – we like you, we really like you!
