The high profile secret briefings by the Justice Department yesterday that were supposed to reveal whether President Trump’s noisy claims that a spy infiltrated his presidential campaign to harm him, causing the “witch hunt” into Russian interference and his collusion, is over and it turns out to be another of Trump’s fake news attacks.

The meeting was to provide classified information about an FBI agent or source who did speak with three people on the Trump campaign at the time about mounting evidence that the Russians were involved in a massive effort to influence the presidential race.
It came about after President Trump demanded the Justice officials provide the classified information to the Congressional leaders.
“The president made this demand for brazenly political reasons,” reported MSNBC, “threatening to undermine not only the rule of law, but also a probe in which Trump is a subject.”
At first, it was only to be for a few Republicans, but after an outcry, Democrats attended as well.
Trump claimed they would see evidence President Obama had placed a spy inside his campaign to hurt his chances. Trump even gave it a name to ensure, as he told confidants, that it would have the maximum impact.
SPYGATE could be one of the biggest political scandals in history!

Now the post-meeting silence from Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), the House Intelligence Committee chairman who demanded this information for weeks with constant threats against the Justice Department, is deafening.
However, the Democrats who attended one or both of the two meetings with high-level officials from Justice, the FBI and other intelligence agencies, have issued a short, clear statement that was read to the press by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, on behalf of himself and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA),
“Nothing we heard today, said Schiff, “has changed our view that there is no evidence to support any allegation that the FBI or any intelligence agency placed a ‘spy’ in the Trump Campaign, or otherwise failed to follow appropriate procedures and protocols.”
So there is no political scandal, just an addition to the long list of lies Trump has told during his campaign and tenure as president.
The MSNBC article has a list of them you can read here.
“Just as the notorious ‘Nunes memo’ ended up backfiring,” adds MSNBC, “undermining Trump World’s own arguments, the secret information divulged yesterday brought into focus another inconvenient truth for the president: there was no spy. Trump’s assertions on the matter have been ridiculous from the outset.”
That is the case even though the Trump side played a little dirty pool to set the table for the meeting.
To the surprise of almost everyone, among those who showed up for the meeting was the appearance of Emmet Flood, one of Trump’s lawyers working on the Russian investigation case, accompanied by ‘Trump’s Chief of Staff John Kelley,
Flood and Kelly spoke to the group and then left before the classified data was unveiled but even so, the fact they were there, was a crude effort at intimidation.
Emmet Flood’s presence and statement at the outset of both meetings today was completely inappropriate, and I told him so. It only underscores what Rudy Giuliani said: the President’s legal team expects to improperly obtain and use such information for their defense.

Trump, to no one’s surprise, is still fuming about his claims of nefarious attacks against his campaign, as you can see in the tweet below – but notice for the first time this week, there is no hashtag #Spygate attached.
Can anyone even imagine having Spies placed in a competing campaign, by the people and party in absolute power, for the sole purpose of political advantage and gain? And to think that the party in question, even with the expenditure of far more money, LOST!

Rep. Schiff once again captures the reality of what Trump is doing in his tweet this morning.
It is one thing to imagine a fictional world. It is another to repeatedly assert that something imagined is real. The first is the realm of the novelist. The second is that of a demagogue. https://t.co/ofhIb5QF2a

Trump’s lies keep coming and they are not harmless or done without a strategic purpose.
They are made in bad faith to subvert justice, mislead the masses and create confusion about whether the investigations that are getting closer to the president are credible.
Nunes, according to some conservatives, is now grumbling that the meeting did not provide all the documents he sought so there likely will be more rounds of subterfuge from Trump and his allies.
But the truth is that the FBI was just doing its job when it looked into a hostile foreign power interfering in an American election, and the investigations by the Special Counsel and others must go forward so Americans finally find out the truth.
It appears Trump is right there is a huge political scandal but it is not a plot against him, it is a plot by him and those around him.
