While the sexual encounters between President Trump and his porn star mistress, Stormy Daniels, may have ended years ago, Ms. Daniels’ love affair with the American public shows no signs of so cooling off.
The Mayor of West Hollywood, California, presented Stormy with a ceremonial key to the city Wednesday, and declared the day “Stormy Daniels Day.”
West Hollywood sits in the heart of the Los Angeles metropolitan area, and both the local government and its residents have a long history of pro-LGBTQ activism and leadership. The city and communities like it across the country were among the earliest and most vocal critics of the Trump campaign and subsequent administration, particularly because of his choice of the unabashedly anti-LGBTQ running mate, Mike Pence, to be Vice President.

During the campaign, former Mayor Lindsey Horvath sent a letter to Trump telling him that, “your campaign of violence and intimidation is not welcome in our city.”
“I demand that you renounce calls to violence and consider the role you play in shaping public discourse, specifically with the words you choose and the behavior you exhibit and encourage,” she later stated.
According to an official statement released by the city today, Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, “was honored for her leadership in the #RESIST movement” and for her newfound role as a “national figure in the resistance to the Trump Administration.”
More from the official statement.
“In these politically tumultuous times, Daniels has proven herself to be a profile in courage by speaking truth to power even under threats to her safety and extreme intimidation.”
The current mayor, John Duran, tweeted today to mark the occasion, and left no doubt about what message the city hoped to send with their decision to honor Ms. Daniels in this very public way.
Haha! Giving the key to the City to @StormyDaniels today & the right wing hate mail is pouring in. Been doing LGBT rights for over 30 years. Right wing hate mail is the compass that tells me I am doing something right! Happy Stormy Daniels Day! #StormyDaniels #Resisters #WeHo

Despite her risqué career choice and the unavoidable aspersions she faced as the “other woman” in the Trump marriage – or one of them, anyway – Stormy Daniels has confronted her date with international fame with aplomb and, dare we say, grace.
She came across quite credible and believable in the multiple interviews and public appearances she’s made. Even the most fervent of President Trump’s apologists in the right wing media could find no chink in her armor to exploit, no inconsistencies in her story to highlight, no malice in her tone with which to discredit her.
Now, months after exploding onto the scene to tell her story, her plight to rid herself of both the fear and the burden of President Trump and his henchmen appears to be dissipating.
