Bernie just skewered Trump and John Kelly on Mother’s Day for tearing kids away from their parents

Progressive champion and likely 2020 presidential contender Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) issued a fiery condemnation of President Trump and his Chief of Staff John Kelly’s reprehensible policy of separating immigrant parents from their children and throwing them in “foster care, or whatever” as Kelly so crudely put it.

“I think it is heartless. I think the entire Trump views on immigration is heartless” said Sanders on CNN’s State of the Union with Jake Tapper. “

You know, in the last polls that I have seen, some 80 percent of the American people believe that we should provide legal status to the 1.8 million people in the DACA program who are eligible for DACA. And that’s a program that Trump killed,”

“The American people believe that we should move forward to comprehensive immigration reform, and Trump is moving in exactly the wrong direction and we see the cruelty of his immigration policies when you talk about the United States government separating children from their parents.”

President Trump’s administration has pursued openly discriminatory and vindictively cruel anti-immigration policies clearly designed to address the most concerning issue for Trump voters – shifting demographics that are steadily eroding the socioeconomic dominance of Christan whites in American society.

The cruelty and sadism with which the Immigration and Customs Enforcement has gone about hunting down immigrants and tearing families apart on top of the needless ending of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that gave legal protection to nearly a million immigrant kids who have spent their entire lives in the United States and the casual racism which has defined both Donald Trump’s election campaign and conduct in office make it clear that he and his cronies are pursuing an agenda of soft ethnic cleansing.

How anyone could justify tearing kids away from their parents after having just survived the brutal and extremely dangerous journey to the United States is beyond comprehension – especially to just hand them over to an overtaxed and undersupervised foster care system.

Trump’s immigration policies are the very definition of heartless, and the recent remarks by John Kelly expose the disgusting white supremacist beliefs that run through American political institutions. Senator Sanders is right to call them out on – and he couldn’t have chosen a more appropriate day to do so.
