Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been on a tear in the media for nearly a week on behalf of his new and only constituent, President Donald Trump.
It started it out bad with softball tossing homer Sean Hannity in the friendly confines of his Fox News studio, and only got worse from there. While navigating his way through the choppy waters of media outlets that actually asked followup questions, he hit every rock along away, even some that weren’t there.
Michael Avenatti, President Trump’s porn star mistress’ lawyer representing her in the hush money scandal, has been his harshest critic, largely because Giuliani’s chief goal during his Make America Suspicious Again tour has been to muddy the waters in that case.
Early Tuesday afternoon, Mr. Avenatti dropped a bombshell on Twitter, releasing a 6-page document that purportedly shows payments from a Putin-tied Russian oligarch to a shell company controlled by Michael Cohen, Trump’s lawyer and fixer. That same company, Essential Consultants, LLC, is the entity that ultimately made the hush-money payment to Stormy Daniels on behalf of Trump.
Giuliani decided enough was enough. Speaking to Bloomberg News in response to Avenatti’s report and the explosive allegations that appear to confirm Russian collusion, Giuliani said:
“I have no idea how he would know that. I have no reason to believe that anything he says is true. I consider him now sort of a guy who books for Saturday Night Live. The guy is a pretty unsuccessful lawyer — can’t remember a case he’s ever had that meant anything — and I think he’s desperate for money.”
Michael Avenatti wasted no time responding. He took to Twitter and responded in kind:
Mr. Giuliani – you just called me a "pretty unsuccessful lawyer" and stated that you "can't remember a case he's ever had that meant anything." 1st, you obviously can't remember much. 2nd, check my bio and you will find over a BILLION worth of verdicts and settlements. #dumb

Many of the details in the report Avenatti leaked have since been confirmed by pretty much every major news outlets that doesn’t rhyme with box blues. We’ve also learned that special counsel Robert Mueller has already interviewed Viktor Vekselberg, the Russian Oligarch identified as the man who made the $500,000 payment to Cohen. Almost within the hour, Giuliani’s comments have completely blown up in his face.
What’s left of Giuliani’s credibility is now entirely shot, and his entire desperate gambit in the media over the last week – to try to convince Americans that Trump used personal funds to reimburse Michael Cohen for the hush money payment to Stormy Daniels – has been completely exposed for the PR stunt it was always designed to be.
