Jeff Sessions just announced a cruel and inhumane new policy targeting innocent children

The Trump administration unveiled its latest xenophobic initiative today, appropriately announced by our racist Attorney General Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III.

From here on out, the Justice Department will seek to separate the families of undocumented immigrants, rather than keeping parents and their children in the same detention camps, NBC News reports. It’s a move of remarkable cruelty and sadly exactly in keeping with what we’ve been taught to expect from this nihilistic administration.

“If you are smuggling a child then we will prosecute you, and that child will be separated from you as required by law. If you don’t like that, then don’t smuggle children over our border,” Sessions said.

The Justice Department is trying to disguise the clearly bigoted agenda on display here by claiming that they simply want to punish people who break immigration laws like they would for any other law, and that convicted criminals who are American citizens always have their children separated from them. They hope to prosecute 100% of people who enter the country without legal documentation.

Since October, 700 children have already been taken from their parents.

Parents will be remanded to U.S. Marshals and taken to federal court where they could face a maximum penalty of six months if it’s their first conviction for “illegal entry.” Their children will be given to the Office of Refugee Resettlement, which in turn will deliver them to American relatives or hand them over to private shelters.

In other words, kids will be taken away from parents who, in most cases, are honest, hardworking people. These children’s lives will be destroyed so that Trump can toss some red meat to the same hateful Americans who lapped up the worst of his campaign rhetoric. It’s absolutely shameful and one of the clearest examples of the real, tangible damage that Trump and his cronies are doing to people. To remain silent on this issue is deeply evil.
