Sure, in the real world, the Trump regime is full of corrupt imbeciles and deranged conspiracy spewing bigots. But on Saturday Night Live, they’re getting the star treatment. (Video below.)

In this week’s cold open, Alec Baldwin’s Trump was joined by fellow movie star Ben Stiller in the role of the president’s disgraced lawyer and fixer, Michael Cohen, as well as appearances by Jimmy Fallon (Jared Kushner), Martin Short (Dr. Harold Bornstein), and Scarlett Johansson (Ivanka Trump). But the casting choice that turned the most heads was that of Stormy Daniels, who was played by… Stormy Daniels.

Without giving too much away, the three enact a phone call that sends up one of the most ridiculous scandals in American political history — not ridiculous because of its sexual nature but because of an inept Trump team that can’t exercise the discipline necessary to stick to a single version of their story.

Trump originally assured the public that he had no idea about a payment from Cohen to Daniels in exchange for her silence about their affair in the lead-up to the 2016 election. Then, new Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani contradicted the story on Fox News, saying that Trump had repaid Cohen and that the payment was specifically to avoid fallout in his campaign — essentially confessing to numerous election crimes.

It has been noted that Trump and his associates conduct their business like a crime family. They may try, but if the mob acted with this level of consistently impulsive stupidity, it would have been wiped out a century ago.

SNL beautifully satirizes that impulsive stupidity in the video below, and the casting is perfect. Enjoy.
