CNN host Jake Tapper took aim at the White House and the President’s legions of furious fans this morning when he addressed the most recent and frankly ridiculous non-“controversy” over comedian Michelle Wolf’s remarks at that White House Correspondents Dinner.
Unable to tolerate seeing the powerful and influential people whose goodwill they rely upon to produce news stories being mocked, the White House press corps joined Donald Trump and his hypocritical fans in criticizing Wolf’s jokes about White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ shameless mendacity.
The hollow deployment of civility politics in order to protect an extraordinarily corrupt administration that flagrantly pushes a white nationalist agenda was particularly galling considering that the president whom Sanders represents and willingly defends day after day has spent the vast majority of his time actually insulting others in deplorable fashion – just the day before he had been under fire for disparaging comments about the Paralympic athletes.

Last night, Tapper joined Jimmy Kimmel to discuss the furious response from pearl-clutching Trump fans, administration members, and assorted media bootlickers.
“You were at that dinner. Were you outraged? Were your delicate sensibilities offended?” begins Kimmel, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
“It’s really interesting how many people in the Trump White House and the Trump-supporting media are very offended about what they consider to be a very indecent performance by the comedian,” said Tapper dryly. “I’ve been trying to start a conversation on my show about decency and insults and smearing and people saying things about other people that are not true.”
“If the Trump White House and their allies in the media want to have this conversation about decency, I welcome them to the table to talk about it. But there’s a bunch of stuff that they need to get caught up on before we get to a comedian at the White House dinner.”
Tapper went into a brief discussion of all the people that President Trump has insulted and demeaned over his time in office and demanded that he own up to his “back-up of material” before we get to talking about Michelle Wolf and whether or not her lightly provocative remarks were offensive.
Frankly, this is one of the dumbest news cycles our nation has ever had to endure, and the fact that this brouhaha was followed up immediately by an even stupider 36 hours of coverage about rapper Kanye West’s unhinged alt-right remarks tells you all you need to know about the dysfunction that infects American corporate media and the consumers that are drawn to it night after night.
