Since the earliest days of the campaign, Donald Trump has waged a relentless war of words on the free press to discredit their factual reporting of his corruption.
Tonight, at the White House Correspondents Dinner, the press got a little revenge (videos below).
Too cowardly to attend himself, President Trump sent White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders to suffer as the in-person punchline. They could not have known however that M.C. and Daily Show correspondent Michelle Wolf would pull no punches.
Nor should she have. Trump has engaged in a deliberate and systematic assault on free speech and basic human decency, and Sanders has acted as his chief defender, brazenly denying the most obvious of facts while spouting despicable lie after despicable lie at the expense of our very democracy.
Wolf deserves to be celebrated not just of being funny but the courage to speak truth to power in her brutal and hilarious takedowns of Trump and Sanders. After all, they can’t even muster the courage to speak the truth at all.
