President Emmanuel Macron addressed the United States Congress today and reminded Americans what an articulate leader, intelligent leader sounds like.
During his remarks, he criticized isolationism of the sort that Donald Trump has advocated for since his campaign. Macron also attacked many of the American president’s favorite talking points without specifically attacking Trump himself.
Macron went on to state that he believes that the U.S. will eventually reenter into the Paris Agreement, the landmark climate change accord that Trump hastily pulled out of as a means of placating his Big Oil donors as well as a means of attacking another element of President Obama’s legacy.

As Macron so succinctly put it, “There is no Planet B.” His remarks were met with thunderous applause from the gathered American lawmakers.

While Macron didn’t mention why he believes Trump removed the United States from the Paris Agreement in the first place, he was less coy when discussing the matter with the French press pool.
“Trump opposes the Paris climate deal, undoubtedly because it was signed by his predecessor,” Macron said, according to Philip Crowther of France 24.

Macron is spot-on in his assessment. Trump is utterly transparent not only to most Americans but to the entire world. His profound pettiness drives him to find new ways to degrade and erase President Obama’s achievements. Trump built his political reputation from the ground up by starting the racist birther movement that questioned our first black president’s presidential legitimacy.
Now, Trump is gambling the fate of the entire world by ignoring climate change simply so that he can take another jab at Obama. It’s shameful, and Macron is right to criticize Trump’s less-than-honorable intentions.
