The Waffle House hero who saved innocents during shooting just broke the internet with his next move

If you wonder what a real Amerian hero looks like, look no further than James Shaw Jr. a 29-year-old father who, although unarmed and wounded himself, wrestled an AR-15 assault rifle away from a naked right-wing maniac murdering innocent people in a Tennessee restaurant on Sunday, and then stepped up the next day to help the victims and their families.

Shaw created a GoFundMe page that in its first 22 hours exceeded his goal of $15,000, and has raised almost $39,000.

“I am creating this page,” he wrote, “to help the families of the victims from the Shooting that took place at Waffle House in Antioch, TN. Please take the time to donate as all of the proceeds will be given to the families. Thank you again for your generosity and blessings!”

No, thank you, Mr. Shaw, not only for your quick action to save lives but for reminding us there still are real American heroes.

Shaw has not only raised money but shown humility as he has been praised by millions of people and cheered as a hero by many American leaders, with one notable exception: the otherwise tweet-happy president of the United States.

If the incident had been a Muslim shooter and a white man acting to save lives, there is little doubt Trump would have been all over Twitter about it.

Adding to the irony, Trump, the draft-dodger-in-chief, claimed after the Parkland shooting if he had been there he would have rushed into the school and disarmed the killer even without a gun.

However, when James Shaw Jr., actually wrestled the gun away from a naked right-wing “sovereign citizen” extremist with the NRA’s favorite weapon, an assault rifle, Trump was disgracefully silent.

During a news briefing today, the president’s spokesperson did praise Shaws “heroic actions,” but that was just a face-saving, knee-jerk reaction to satisfy reporter’s questions about why the president had not said or tweeted anything.

Trump may think it plays best to his electoral “base” when he praises the alt-right fanatics and ignores an African American who is a humble, hard-working family man, but the rest of America notices.

Like his policy on taxes, the environment, health insurance and more, the message from Trump is consistent – that he’s not the president for all Americans, but only for the rich, the powerful, and those racist enough to support him.

So go to Shaw’s GoFundMe page and give what you can to the victims of this shooting because until the next election or impeachment most of America remains a victim of the worst, most unqualified, deceitful, racist president in modern history.
