Parkland survivor Emma Gonzalez just went megaviral with tweet about today’s Waffle House shooting

Emma Gonzalez has been one of the most visible and passionate of the survivors who have emerged from the horror of the February mass shooting massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.  She and her classmates have seized the debate over gun control in America – much to the National Rifle Association’s  displeasure.

The right wing media, desperate to defend the NRA against the teenagers’ blistering attacks on their specious talking points about the second amendment, have gone after Emma and others in increasingly vile terms.  Their goal is to shame them into irrelevance, or worse, to silence them.

Laura Ingraham of Fox News insulted David Hogg with a petty tweet about his grades, and Emma herself has been the subject of a fake news assault  featuring a photo doctored to make it appear as if she was ripping-up a copy of the Constitution.

These and other attacks haven’t worked.  In fact, in most cases, they’ve backfired spectacularly.  The Parkland, Florida survivors, it appears, can’t be stopped.

After the overnight shooting at a Waffle House in Nashville, Tennessee left four dead in yet another senseless act of violence, Emma took to Twitter to put that tragedy into context before the NRA had chance to put out their predictable talking points in a vain attempt to somehow control the narrative.

Add your name to millions demanding Congress take action on the President’s crimes. IMPEACH TRUMP & PENCE!

“Shootings don’t just happen in schools,” she wrote in the opening salvo of her 4-part tweet storm. “They happen everywhere in America, and now one has happened in Waffle House. You can donate all the shooting shelters to schools that you want, but at the end of the day, we can’t build our world out of Kevlar – someone is making Mad Money off that.”

She was just getting started.  In a subsequent tweets, she was sure to identify the race (white) and the weapon he used (AR-15), and completely demolished the myth that the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

The gunman – who’s still at large – was tackled by an unarmed hero who wrestled the assault rifle away from him before he could murder any more people.

“There goes the sales pitch for @SmithWessonCorp, she wrote.

And just to be sure there was no way her tweets could be twisted by the pro-NRA apologists in the right wing media, she finished with a flurry explicitly stating her position.

“Removing assault and semi-automatic weapons from our civilian society, instituting thorough background checks and mandatory waiting periods (and raising the buying age and banning the production of high-capacity magazines) are the ways to stop shootings in America.”
