Trump just did the most insensitive thing possible during Barbara Bush’s funeral

While diplomats, world leaders, friends and loved ones gathered today for the late Barbara Bush’s memorial service at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas, there was one glaring – albeit welcome – absence.


While it was widely reported that Trump was not invited to the memorial service, and he even pre-empted the move with a face-saving statement, the president decided to disregard all optics with his Saturday schedule.

“To avoid disruptions due to added security, and out of respect for the Bush Family and friends attending the service, President Trump will not attend,” the White House said in a statement.

Instead of choosing a dignified or – God forbid – low-key activity, Trump put his real priorities on full display as he golfed at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. This is his 109th day at a golf property in 456 days in office. In other words, Trump has spent roughly 20 percent of his presidency on the links.

While the rest of our nation’s leaders mourn a woman who fought for good, who advocated for literacy and put her love of country above her party, the current occupant of the White House is enjoying yet another vacation on the taxpayers’ dime, while sending out unhinged, desperate tweets rife with spelling errors that would embarrass even a child.

While he may be the antithesis of everything that Mrs. Bush stood for, she could at least find solace in the fact that his charade will soon come to an end—at the hands of the special counsel or a blue wave come November, both of which clearly spell the president’s impending demise.
