While diplomats, world leaders, friends and loved ones gathered today for the late Barbara Bush’s memorial service at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas, there was one glaring – albeit welcome – absence.
While it was widely reported that Trump was not invited to the memorial service, and he even pre-empted the move with a face-saving statement, the president decided to disregard all optics with his Saturday schedule.
“To avoid disruptions due to added security, and out of respect for the Bush Family and friends attending the service, President Trump will not attend,” the White House said in a statement.
Instead of choosing a dignified or – God forbid – low-key activity, Trump put his real priorities on full display as he golfed at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. This is his 109th day at a golf property in 456 days in office. In other words, Trump has spent roughly 20 percent of his presidency on the links.
