This morning, America awoke to the news that Barbara Bush, 92, is in failing health and would no longer pursue medical treatment, but instead opt for comfort care at her home in Houston, Texas.
“It will not surprise those who know her that Barbara Bush has been a rock in the face of her failing health, worrying not for herself — thanks to her abiding faith — but for others. She is surrounded by a family she adores, and appreciates the many kind messages and especially the prayers she is receiving,” a statement from Bush’s office read.
While the news is somber, CBS News brought the development a step too far, effectively burying the former First Lady and mother to another president with an obituary of sorts. The article was published despite an emboldened warning, “DO NOT PUBLISH,” in the title of the article.

Luckily, Mrs. Bush is still with us. She has been a fierce advocate for literacy, raising more than a billion dollars for charity with her husband, former President George H. W. Bush since leaving office. It’s ironic that such a staunch supporter of literacy would be the victim of someone who so obviously had problems reading the headline that was right in front of them.
