Elliott Broidy, a Deputy Finance Chairman for the Republican National Committee, made nationals news today by confessing that he had a relationship with an anonymous former Playboy model that culminated in her getting an abortion and receiving $1.6 million in 2017. The deal was carried out by Trump’s personal attorney Michael Cohen.
Now, Broidy has resigned in shame. The rank hypocrisy that it takes for someone like Broidy to carry on a secret relationship that ends in abortion and then present himself as a Republican pushing for “family values” and advocating a for a regressive anti-choice platform is staggering. Like every opportunistic liar in the GOP, he deserves to be criticized and ridiculed for his actions.
The Wall Street Journal previously reported that in 2017 Cohen negotiated a secret deal to pay a former Playboy model $1.6 million after she was impregnated by Broidy. The staggering sum of money was intended to keep her quiet about the relationship, conception, and subsequent abortion. It’s worth noting that Cohen also serves as a Deputy Finance Chairman for the RNC.
“I acknowledge I had a consensual relationship with a Playboy Playmate. At the end of our relationship, the woman shared with me that she was pregnant. She alone decided that she did not want to continue with the pregnancy and I offered to help her financially during this difficult period,” Broidy said in a statement issued by his spokesperson.
Interestingly, the pseudonyms on the deal between Broidy and the woman were the same used by Cohen for the deal between Donald Trump and Stephanie Clifford: “David Dennison” and “Peggy Peterson.” The duplicitous lawyer has the act of silencing women down to a science. The more we learn about his past behavior, the more likely it appears that he has made a career out of helping immoral men engage in lascivious and perhaps sometimes criminal behavior. In other words, he’s perfect bedfellow for a man like Trump.
President Trump’s personal attorney and longtime friend Michael Cohen — who could perhaps more accurately be described as his bumbling consigliere — is having a particularly rough week.
On Monday, Cohen and Trump were dealt a surprise blow when the FBI raided Cohen’s office in Trump Tower, seizing numerous documents, some pertaining to the $130,000 in hush money the lawyer paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels, real name Stephanie Clifford, to cover up her alleged affair with Trump.
Yesterday, it was revealed that Cohen met with The Enquirer while the tabloid was investigating a story from a former doorman at a Trump property who claimed that Trump fathered a secret child with one of his housekeepers. While it’s unclear what exactly Cohen said to the magazine, The Enquirer eventually ended up spiking the story, with some staffers saying they were forced to abandon promising leads.
Clearly, there is a pattern of sinister behavior here. Cohen is all too happy to be the bagman who helps lecherous old Republicans cover up their immoral indiscretions.
