Yesterday, the FBI raided the Trump Tower offices of the president’s personal attorney and close friend Michael Cohen. Not surprisingly, the story went off like a bombshell in the media, with pundits clambering to explain the dramatic move and anticipate what comes next.
The lawyer of the President of the United States being raided by the FBI is not just a huge event, it’s a historic one. It could very well prove to be a key turning point in the downfall of the Trump administration.
Perhaps not surprisingly, Fox News — the all but official state media of the Trump administration — was more than a little reluctant to cover the story. Propagandist Tucker Carlson, a man who has elevated bad faith arguments to an art form, decided that a raid on the president’s lawyer was a great opportunity to talk about a pressing issue in American politics: the sex life of panda bears.

Carlson delivered an absurd monologue about how pandas look cute, but in reality are quite dangerous. He quoted a report referring to pandas as “secret studs” with “a taste for flesh.” He then pivoted to talking about how pandas like to have sex and how male pandas in the wild engage in a “fierce sexual contest” culminating in them having sex forty times in one afternoon.
The clip is beyond farce. Even by Fox standards, it’s an incredible act of distraction journalism. It has to be seen to be believed.

CNN’s Jake Tapper — a news anchor actually interested in the news — couldn’t resist the opportunity to mock Tucker. Tapper tweeted out a GIF from the movie “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.”
The film is a comedy about ridiculous news personalities and the GIF Tapper shared shows a new station breathlessly covering a boring story about pandas at a zoo. The hilarious similarity between the scene and Tucker’s panda segment is perfect.
