When Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), an Iraq war veteran and double amputee, saw the tweet from Time Magazine reporter Phil Elliott quoting President Trump’s remarks on Democrats and the military in the fight over the omnibus spending bill today, her blood boiled.
"The Democrats don't believe in that" says the President of the military.

Trump’s accusations about the Democratic party’s support of the military are the sort of unjustified partisan attacks that have no basis in actual reality and would be uncalled for and objectionable even if they weren’t coming from the cowardly draft dodger Senator Duckworth likes to call “Cadet Bone Spurs.”

She went on Twitter to explain how real patriots feel about their country in an example of just how far from that ideal our current president remains and will never attain.
I didn’t literally risk life and limb serving in our military because I’m a Democrat—I risked everything for my country and my fellow Americans because I’m an American https://t.co/GNYkxPuSvT

Having sacrificed both her legs in the service of our nation, Duckworth naturally feels that President Trump’s ignorant attacks on the opposition party are not only insulting to her personally as a disabled veteran but to all Americans who value their country and are willing to put politics aside to unite and defend our nation, even in the misbegotten and ill-advised military adventurism in the service of corporate interests that passes for war these days.
Trump can never hope to equal Senator Duckworth’s valor or bravery, given his narcissistic self-interested approach to everything in his life and his obvious disdain for anybody but himself.
This isn’t the first time Senator Duckworth has told Trump where to go after attacking the Democrats over military issues. Pinned to the top of her Twitter page is one of her all-time greatest ripostes to a presidential tweet.
I will not be lectured about what our military needs by a five-deferment draft dodger. https://t.co/gR3EbhGxBs

Trump for his part blithely ignores Senator Duckworth’s comments, but let’s hope that the junior senator from Illinois never stops calling out Trump’s inane and unpatriotic statements for the cynical political ploys that they are and continues to prove what real patriotism is like.
