Senator John McCain has been keeping a low profile lately as he fights a battle with glioblastoma, an extremely aggressive brain tumor with a very poor prognosis for most people who are diagnosed with the affliction.
As frail as the Senator may be as he undergoes intensive therapy to fight the deadly tumor, McCain still has the presence of mind to worry about President Trump’s unprecedented attacks on the FBI and to stage a preliminary defense of Special Counsel Robert Mueller whom Trump is rumored to be mulling firing.
McCain is one of the few Republican Senators who has been very vocal in his opposition to the Russian interference in our elections, and he took to Twitter to reinforce his view that the Special Counsel’s team should be unhindered in its probe into the matter.
Special Counsel Mueller has served our country with honesty and integrity. It’s critical he be allowed to complete a thorough investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election — unimpeded.

Contrast McCain’s assessment of Mueller’s character and the tone of his tweet with the demented, guilty rantings of the man who doesn’t like soldiers who were captured.
The Mueller probe should never have been started in that there was no collusion and there was no crime. It was based on fraudulent activities and a Fake Dossier paid for by Crooked Hillary and the DNC, and improperly used in FISA COURT for surveillance of my campaign. WITCH HUNT!

Why does the Mueller team have 13 hardened Democrats, some big Crooked Hillary supporters, and Zero Republicans? Another Dem recently added…does anyone think this is fair? And yet, there is NO COLLUSION!

It doesn’t take a threat to your mortality to discern the essential difference between a dedicated civil servant who takes his role and responsibilities seriously and a self-centered, paranoid criminal trying to evade the consequences of his treasonous activities.
As close to the end of his time on earth as Senator McCain may be, and despite his holding political views so diametrically opposed to the progressive ideals that many of us on the left share, there is no denying that he is a man of principles and honor, much like the Special Counsel he so fervently defends.
If only the other members of his party, the healthy cancer-free Republican legislators, were as willing to stand up to their off-the-rails, constitutionally-deficient political leader as McCain is while still in his sickbed, then perhaps the prognosis for our democracy could advance beyond the critical stage.
Until then, we can only hope that enough of Senator McCain’s fellow legislators heed his warning that any attempt by the president to impede Mueller’s investigation will result in the quickest and most justified impeachment in our nation’s history.
