Trump’s Treasury Secretary tried to conceal a video of him getting publicly humiliated. It just leaked

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin generally manages to avoid the spotlight, unlike some of the more media-hungry, infamous members of the Trump regime. That said, he’s no less complicit and no less culpable for the systematic degradation of our democratic institutions that our reality television leader is currently facilitating.

With that fact in mind, one couldn’t help but feel a surge of amusement at the news from The Wall Street Journal yesterday that Mnuchin attended a discussion at the University of California, Los Angeles and was brutally heckled.

Students booed and hissed at him while he struggled his way through talking points about the economy. Reportedly, some of the demonstrators even came in full costume, dressed as King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, presumably a reference to the now-infamous photo of Mnuchin and his wife Louise Linton, in which they looked like out of touch aristocrats.

The students protested numerous issues that Mnuchin is at least partially responsible for, from the regressive tax legislation Trump rammed through Congress that gave massive handouts to the super-rich and saddled the middle-class with new financial burdens to the administration’s ongoing assault on affordable health care.

Trump and his cronies are plundering the public coffers and lining the pockets of their plutocratic buddies. It’s a disgraceful betrayal, and it’s being perpetrated right out in the open. The UCLA students who showed up to confront Mnuchin should be commended for their bravery, and for making an effort to push back against raging kleptocracy.

Hilariously, Mnuchin asked for the students not to release any of the videos of him being heckled, presumably because it makes him look feckless and despised. Of course, it was only a matter of time before the videos leaked, and now they have. At one point, a large portion of the room can be heard hissing at Mnuchin. It’s an appropriate sound, given his and the rest of the administration’s snake-like tendencies.

Other videos previously leaked out, including a few of people being forcibly escorted out of the room by security.
