In the aftermath of the tragic mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in which a former student used an AR-15 to kill 17 people and injure over a dozen more, Trump exploited their loss by using a photo of a survivor, 17-year-old Madeleine Wilford, in her hospital bed to solicit donations for his re-election campaign.
Morgan Williams, a 16-year-old junior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, was not about to let him take advantage of this tragedy – one that his own pro-NRA agenda facilitated – lying down.
Don’t you fucking dare use a photo of one of my best friends for your benefit. If you truly cared, maybe you would have stayed at the hospital longer than 20 minutes. https://t.co/BOI6VbiJIk

Trump came under intense criticism for only spending a minuscule 35 minutes at the hospital while visiting with victims of the shooting. It became evident that the trip was not to console victims, but rather to use the event as a photo-op which he would ultimately leverage to raise money for himself.
The inclusion of this photo in Trump’s campaign funding request is especially heinous given the fact that the President is effectively owned by the NRA, whose sole priority is the proliferation of guns in American society. Thanks to intense lobbying, gun regulations are so lax in parts of America that the Parkland, Florida gunman actually bought his military-grade weapon legally.
The students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School have been front and center leading the charge against the NRA, a campaign that has already resulted in a mass exodus of corporate partnerships. They have also called on Americans to vote against those who accept donations from America’s most powerful gun lobby, which funds a slew of Republican campaigns.
Trump may try to pervert this wholly avoidable situation to benefit himself, but Americans have woken up to the shameful reality that Republicans would rather defend the NRA than their own constituents.
Trump may have left our nation exasperated with his incessant attacks on our democratic institutions, but these teenagers are only getting started.
