The survivors of the Parkland, Florida massacre aren’t backing down, despite a fierce campaign by the NRA and conservatives in the right wing media to shame them into silence.
David Hogg has been out in front of cameras more than most of his fellow Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School classmates, and so he’s taken most of the heat from pro-gun groups..
Early in the aftermath of the tragedy, conspiracy theories abounded that Hogg was a crisis actor paid by a nefarious group of liberals who go around exploiting mass shootings to push for more gun control.
But it didn’t take long for those conspiracy theories to become accepted facts in the right wing echo chamber. The president’s son, Donald Trump, Jr. even liked two tweets that promoted that ridiculous conspiracy theory.
“It’s disgusting,” Hogg told CNN’s Anderson Cooper Monday. “Along with the other trolls online, he’s only proven the point that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree on maturity,” Hogg continued, “especially from the president.”
Hogg also pointed out that the conspiracy theorists have helped to quadruple his number of Twitter followers, something the Trump family could surely appreciate.
