It appears another potential high school shooting has been stopped.

Alwin Chen, an 18-year-old student at Clarksburg High School, north of Gaithersburg in Montgomery County, Maryland, has been arrested and is being held without bond after he brought a loaded gun and a knife to school, and was found carrying a list of grievances against some of his fellow students.

Police searched his home in Clarksburg, Maryland and found a cache of other weapons including an AR-15 style rifle like the one used in Parkland, Florida, as well as a tactical bulletproof vest, grenades, and other handguns. The weapons were not found in Chen’s bedroom but rather in another part of the house.
BREAKING: MoCo Police located the following items in home of Clarksburg HS student who allegedly brought handgun to class last week:

Pollice arrested Chen, who had the gun in his backpack and the knife in his shirt pocket, after resource officers were told he was carrying a weapon in school.

MORE: Authorities also stated Chen brought a gun to class on a *prior* occasion.
They did not, however, provide additional details. No doubt, a million follow-up questions… What kind of gun? Was it loaded? Did school know about it at the time? If so, was Chen disciplined?

After the incident, parents at the school got a letter that said, “This illegal and dangerous behavior will not be tolerated in our community. any student caught with a weapon will be referred to law enforcement and punished accordingly.”
An attorney for Chen said that the weapons were all properly licensed, although he has not yet provided physical proof.
Chen’s attorney said he should be released on bail but for now, the judge is keeping him in jail without bond.
This time the gun-toting student was stupid enough to let others know what he had, which led to his being turned in and arrested, but it could have ended very differently.
This is just more evidence that incidents like this can happen anywhere at any time, so the solution has to be to find ways to keep guns out of the hands of those under age 21 – especially powerful semi-automatic rifles – and those who have been shown to have a history of mental illness, or as in this case, a prior incident with a weapon at the same school.
These are only a few of the things that need to be done immediately that would not infringe on the rights of Americans who want to own appropriate guns for hunting, personal safety or as collectors.

Every other civilized country has found ways to deal with gun and gun violence issues, and America in the 21st century needs to take action.
The days of the wild west are over and a defiant minority cannot be allowed to hold us to a 19th century standard in our dangerous modern world.
