On their official Twitter account, the Coral Springs Police Department urges locals to stay away from the high school. They also added that people should refrain from calling 911 unless they have an absolute emergency, presumably so responders can devote all of their resources to stopping the shooter.

Tragedies like this continue to unfold all across the United States. Schools have been forced to develop emergency protocols to deal with shootings like this, but they can only help so much. America has a serious gun problem that’s tangled up in a disturbing desire for notoriety on the part of these shooters. We must have a long hard conversation about guns, as well as an honest cultural conversation on why these killers are driven to do what they do.
UPDATE: The number of possible victims has been upped from 20 to possibly 50.
