The Republican Party may be in power right now because of Donald J. Trump, but he’s also the reason why the GOP is rapidly disintegrating from the inside out. The stark fission of the party was first apparent during the Republican Primary when the Never Trump movement emerged.

MLive adds that in 2017 Ron Wiser, the overall Michigan Republican Party Chairman, said that DeFrain was one of the GOP’s top officials in Michigan, which shows that Trump is causing his party to hemorrhage its best and brightest in a way that could severely hinder it in the future.

In a post shared on his Facebook page, DeFrain decried Trump’s lack of leadership and condemned the racism and general hatred that has sprung up in the United States since the election. He added that he chooses to no longer affiliate with any political party, and will instead work to represent his own values first and foremost.

Defrain was previously a vocal supporter of Donald Trump, going so far as to endorse Trump in an NBC segment entitled “In Trump They Trust.” The fact that DeFrain is rejecting Trump now shows that the president’s support is waning even amongst his most diehard fans.
