The latest victim of Trump’s idiotic brutality is public media.
Trump’s budget, revealed today, calls for the elimination of federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The proposal calls for “an orderly transition away from federal funding” over the course of two years. CPN would forfeit $15.5 million the first year and $15 million the second year.

The proposal claims that federal funding accounts for only a small part of the CPB budget, but that’s not what CPB President Patricia Harrison says.
“Elimination of federal funding to CPB begins the collapse of the public media system itself and the end of the essential national service,” she said.
Public media provides essential services like emergency alert systems and early childhood programming.

“There is no viable substitute for federal funding that ensures Americans have universal access to public media’s educational and informational programming and services,” Harrison said.
“The elimination of federal funding to CPB would initially devastate and ultimately destroy public media’s role in early childhood education, public safety, connecting citizens to our history, and promoting civil discussions — all for Americans in both rural and urban communities,” said CPB President Patricia Harrison.
