A married Republican Utah lawmaker who billed himself as a “strong advocate for conservative family values” suddenly resigned this week amid revelations he paid a prostitute for oral and anal sex at least twice last year while traveling on government business, reports the Daily Mail.
It appears Representative Jon Stanard used a state-issued cell phone to text the sex worker, Brie Taylor, who he met in a Salt Lake City hotel room charged to his official expense account and billed the $250 for sexy visits in June and August on his government credit card.

In March 2017 – around the same time he first contacted the sex worker – Stanard, the father of three children who represented Utah District 62, an area St. George, Utah, (about 32,000 people), voted in favor of stricter laws on prostitution including an increase in the penalty for soliciting sex to $2,500.
On his website, which has recently been shut down, Stanard wrote: “I am a strong advocate for conservative family values. I am pro life, as well as for traditional marriage.”
Taylor, a 39-year-old mother of one child, released the string of text messages she had exchanged with Stanard over several months, as they worked out an appointment. The phone number on the messages matches Stanard’s official state phone number.
He wanted to meet her in March on that night but she wasn’t available. He said he was only in town for one day and had to get home because he had a sick 10-year-old son.
They finally hooked up for the first time last June 20 at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott Hotel in downtown Salt Lake City
In one text exchange Taylor asked if she should bring any “accessories” or “toys” or perhaps a “corset.”
When they met for one hour, she provided him oral sex and then vaginal and anal intercourse.
Utah House chief of staff Greg Hartley told the Associated Press that on the dates cited, Stanard was reimbursed for two hotel stays while attending legislative meetings at the state capitol.
Taylor, meanwhile, used her phone ID to identify Stanard and googled him.
She called Stanard’s political stance “hypocritical” and said “It was inevitable that he had to resign.”
“People here will be grossed out and appalled by this,” Taylor told The Daily Mail. “They thought they knew him.”
“I was surprised when i found out,” she continued “that he voted in favor of stricter laws.”
“This is a Republican state,” noted Taylor, “so you have to stick with your buddies otherwise it will hurt your career but on the other hand, he is a john.”
“It is hypocritical,” she added, ” because he is supporting laws that make it stricter for other men to do what he does,”
At the June sex session, Taylor – who has acted in pornographic movies – told Stanard that she had googled him and knew his political views.
“He said he never does this sort of stuff in St. George,” recalled Taylor, “because it is really culturally strict down there.”
Utah Speaker of the House Greg Hughes said in a statement that Stanard had resigned “unexpectedly” as a result of “personal and family concerns.”
Stanard’s lawyer, Walter Buren, said that “Given the current climate in this country with misconduct allegations and the way things are happening in the media right now, there isn’t any explanation that my client could give that would overcome the shadow of these allegations. He has resigned his office.”
Once again the blatant hypocrisy of many conservative and Republican politicians comes to light, showing that the same things they condemn in others are things they are known to do in private, smugly assuming they are above the law.
Stanard clearly is not above the law and has been caught not by the law or government, but because the prostitute he was paying money was disgusted by his two-faced hypocrisy and double life.
Utah, where Mormons have the majority and rule the government, is among the most conservative and repressive of all states, and among the most willing to tell people what they can do in their private lives and in the bedroom.

It is disgusting that what this repressive atmosphere has spawned is not a better person, but a bigger liar, who was happy to take the taxpayers money and espouse his line of pro-family blarney right up until he got caught with his cell phone on and his pants down.
