Trump just exploited a tragic car accident to launch a disgusting racist attack

President Donald Trump’s profound and utter lack of empathy has led to a disturbing trend in which he habitually responds to tragedies in a disingenuous way in order to milk them for political gain.

He’ll ignore violent incidents that don’t fit into his narrative, like when young white men carry out mass shootings or police act brutally and often fatally towards black Americans. But when a Muslim or a Hispanic individual commits a crime, the president will harp on it incessantly.

On Sunday, Indianapolis Colt Edwin Jackson and his Uber driver Jeffrey Monroe were killed by an undocumented Guatemalan man who was driving while intoxicated. The man had been previously deported twice and didn’t have a driver’s license.

It was a senseless act of negligence, and the man must be held fully responsible. That said, it’s cruel of Trump to hitch his racist immigration rhetoric to this tragedy, which he did in series of tweets this morning. The families of the victims should be able to mourn in peace, and instead, they’ve been pull into Trump’s torrid and inane border wall saga.

There is also a distinct hypocrisy at work here, in that the man’s drunk driving — which was irresponsible and indefensible — doesn’t really have anything to do with him being an undocumented immigrant. American citizens drive drunk and kill and injure numerous people every year. Trump doesn’t mention those cases. Both are terrible occurrences, but one isn’t somehow worse or better than the other due to citizenship status.

The president tweeted about Edwin Jackson but failed to mention the other victim, because apparently, only famous people deserve to be mentioned by our conman president.

Then, perhaps realizing his initial tweet would be interpreted as the blatant example of opportunism it was, Trump sent out halfhearted condolences to the family of Edwin Jackson, again neglecting the mention the slain Jeffrey Monroe.

Once again, President Trump has revealed himself as a heartless boor. His idiotic border wall will solve nothing and trying to tack it on this these deaths is a new low, even for him. He should be ashamed and owes the families of the victims an immediate apology.
