Trump Jr. just explained why his dad can’t be racist and it’s ridiculous

President Donald Trump is a shameful racist. It’s a fact that members of the media tried to ignore and talk around for a long time, but were forced to finally admit a few weeks ago after it emerged that Trump had referred to El Salvador, Haiti, and Africa as “shitholes” and lamented the fact the U.S. wasn’t courting more immigrants from Norway, which just happens to be a predominantly white country. The comments were indefensible and dripping with bigotry.

Of course, it was just the latest incident of racism from a man who has long traded in it. Trump’s political career was built on questioning the birth certificate of our first black president, and his campaign was fueled by anti-Mexican and Islamophobic rhetoric. Anybody who at this point still contends that our president isn’t racist is either lying or deluding themselves.

In an interview released this week, Donald Trump Jr. — that luminary of nepotistic privilege — attempted to shield his father from accusations of racism.

He made a boy-who-cried-wolf argument, saying that constant claims of racism lead people to take legitimate cases of racism less seriously. It’s an inane thing to say and fails to address the fact that President Trump is on the record multiple times saying blatantly racist things.

Trump Jr. then made the patently absurd assertion that his dad isn’t racist because he’s taken photographs with black rappers as well as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

In reality, a racist is just as capable of posing for photographs as a non-racist. It’s a ridiculous argument and shows how desperate Trump Jr. is to convince the world that his dad isn’t the horrible bigot he really is.

“I know him, I’ve seen him my whole life. I’ve seen the things he’s done. You know it’s amazing. All the rappers, all the this, all his African American friends, from Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. You know, have pictures with him,” Trump Jr. said.

Right Wing Watch shared a video of the interview:
