Now he’s making fun of us, laughing at “the resistance” as he successfully continues his dismantling of decades of social, environmental, financial, and judicial progress in America.
Having gotten away with releasing a memo that undermines the FBI and his own Department of Justice with the aim of discrediting the entire investigation against him and his campaign’s collusion with Russia to win the presidency, President Trump “mocked Democrats and ‘the resistance’ at the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) winter meeting at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., on Thursday night,” according to a report on The Hill.
The very fact that Trump is personally profiting from the Republican National Committee meeting at a hotel that he owns is enough of a violation of presidential ethics to merit impeachment. Yet there stands Trump at a podium taunting the majority of the country opposed to him and his policies.
“You know, the name is resist,” Trump joked. “That’s the name of their movement. ‘Resist.’ That’s all they do is resist. I don’t know if they’re good at it, they can’t be too good at it because we’re passing a lot of things.”
“So I wouldn’t say their resistance is extremely successful,” he added.
After eight years when Republicans mastered the art of obstruction with the clearly stated aim of preventing any aspect of President Obama and the Democratic Party’s agenda from being enacted, that is a pretty laughable statement, if not for the reasons that Trump is chuckling about.
Trump, of course, fails to remember the resistance’s biggest accomplishment last year, the miserable public failure and repudiation of the Republican efforts to repeal Obamacare.
Having managed to ignore public opposition to pass their massive tax giveaway to their wealthy oligarch donor class, however, Trump is feeling his oats, reveling in another successful scam, as he plots with his cronies to figure out what else they can do to destroy America and, as Senator John McCain (R-AZ) argued today they were already accomplishing through the release of Rep. Devin Nunes’ misleading memo, serve Putin’s interests.
The depth of the President’s corruption and mendacity is so extensive that he feels free to publicly say things like this:
“You know, the Democrats are AWOL. They’re missing in action,” Trump said to the RNC meeting. “We’re saying, ‘where are they? We have a proposal, we never hear from them.’ Because I don’t think they want to solve the DACA problem. I think they want to talk about it. I think they want to obstruct.”
Anyone paying attention knows that a bipartisan solution to immigration had been negotiated and presented to the President before he torpedoed the compromise at the urging of the hard-line racists on his staff with his infamous “shithole countries” comments which, of course, he turned around and lied about.
Trump managed to spew so much offensive and untruthful information in just a few minutes, since the press were escorted out of the meeting after only five minutes of Trump’s address to the assembled deplorable Congressional Republicans.
One can only imagine what he may have said after the press’s cameras and microphones were turned off.
