When Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) was 24, Alabama state troopers nearly beat him to death for marching across Selma’s Edmund Pettus Bridge with Martin Luther King Jr.
This is a dark hour and a sad day in the history of our nation. Congress has a constitutional responsibility to protect the goodwill of the United States and to serve as an inspiration to the global community for whom the dream of democracy is a beacon of hope and light.

His eloquent tweet perfectly encapsulates what the desperate far-right ploy means for the state of our once-great republic.
Instead of embodying the shining light of liberty that has attracted immigration and admiration from around the world, our Republican “leadership” is rolling around in the mud like craven plutocrats from a banana republic smearing the opposition in order to consolidate power and tip the scales of justice in their favor.
The preposterous memo tries to claim “political bias” in the Russia investigation, but fails spectacularly to do so.
Furthermore, the Republicans’ memo insinuates that the investigation stems from British ex-spy Christopher Steele’s “pee tape” dossier.
Nevertheless, the FBI began investigating the Trump campaign, as a result of convicted Trump advisor George Papadopoulos’ drunken admissions of collusion with Russia, long before Steele even brought them his dossier.
Meanwhile, the FBI had been surveilling Page on and off since 2013.
Furthermore, the targets of Trump and Nunes’ obstruction of justice attempts, Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, FBI Director Christopher Wray, Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, former FBI director James Comey, and more, are all Republicans.
Trump’s on a tweet rampage against FBI/DOJ for being too helpful to Dems. But there’s a problem with that theory:
I guess, to him, upholding the Constitution is pro-Democrat.

In fact, when Comey was in charge of the FBI, he helped tip the 2016 presidential election to Trump by releasing info about his investigation of Hillary Clinton, while staying mum about his investigation of the Trump-Russia conspiracy.
What’s more, Peter Sztrok — the FBI agent whose stolen text messages Trump and his Republican henchmen have tried to use to allege a “secret society” in the FBI is trying to perform an anti-Trump coup — turns out to be the man who drafted Comey’s memo smearing Hillary just before the election.
The outlandish extent to which congressional Republicans and Trump’s White House will go to obstruct justice reveals that John Lewis’ Democratic Party — along with the FBI and Department of Justice — as the true defenders of the values conservatives have always claimed as exclusively theirs: patriotism, national security, freedom, law and order, truth, justice, and the American way.
