Another school shooting has tragically unfolded, this time in Los Angeles, California. NBC News reports that police have responded to a shooting at the Belmont High School and Sal Castro Middle School campus.
A 15-year-old boy is in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head and a 15-year-old girl is in fair condition with a shot to the wrist, after another female student opened fire inside a middle school classroom. The suspect is in police custody. The weapon used isn’t known yet nor is the motivation behind the violence.

This is the 12th school shooting this year, and we are barely a month into 2018. President Trump rarely even acknowledges these events unless there’s a Muslim involved that he can then exploit for political gain.
In October, the deadliest mass shooting modern American history was carried out in Los Vegas, but already that horrific incident has faded from the national discourse. Republicans block any attempts to curb the epidemic of gun violence in this country in their cynical fealty to the National Rifle Associaton. Until we are willing to sit down as a nation and confront this difficult problem, violent events like this will continue happening.
