House Democrats, led by ranking Judiciary Committee member, New York’s Jerry Nadler, have called for an emergency meeting with the FBI and Department of Justice (DOJ) to strategize how to mitigate the damage to national security and law enforcement that Republicans’ White House-backed memo release will cause.

According to this evening’s The Hill:
The letter, spearheaded by ranking member Rep. Jerrod Nadler (D-N.Y.), is directed to committee chairman Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.). In it, Nadler asks Goodlatte to arrange a meeting with FBI Director Christopher Wray and other representatives from the Justice Department to examine the ‘talking points’ that he says Republicans are using to ‘discredit the work of the FBI and Special Counsel Robert Mueller.’
‘It is imperative that we hear directly from these officials about the security and law enforcement implications of making this information public,’ Nadler wrote.
‘It is also important that we hear about any inaccuracies or key omissions from the Nunes document,’ he added.
Trump and Republican House Intel chair, Devin Nunes of California, have actively flouted warnings from their own FBI director, Christopher Wray, and Assistant Attorney General, Stephen Boyd, that releasing the distorted memo, with its classified intelligence taken out of context, poses a threat to ongoing investigations.
Of course, that is exactly Trump and Nunes’ intent, as Trump himself has stated.

Republicans are using the bogus memo to try to discredit the FBI and Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller’s investigations of Trump’s conspiracy with Russia to undermine American democracy.
By calling a meeting with Trump’s FBI and DOJ, Democrats are rallying the full weight of law enforcement behind them to show Republicans that their obstruction of justice tactics are only putting them in hotter water with the law.

Some lawmakers have warned that if Republicans release the misleading memo, Democrats will release their own classified intel that shows just how dirty the far-right really is. The FBI and DOJ could help them select what to include.
