Despite his endless attacks on Hillary Clinton, both for Benghazi and for her emails, Gowdy has consistently covered for Trump, aiding and abetting his obstruction of justice in the Russia investigation.
Today, famed former Obama speechwriter and current host of “Pod Save America,” Jon Favreau, pointed out the harsh truth underlying the mass Republican exodus exemplified by Gowdy’s departure.
I'm so confused. Why are all these Republicans retiring if they've got Democrats on the run with their wildly popular tax cut that has single-handedly ushered in our economic Golden Age? https://t.co/6eDzkiGFnd

Republicans are fleeing Congress en masse because 1.) they don’t want to go down with Trump’s sinking Russia ship and 2.) as Favreau mentions, they know constituents will hold the party responsible in the 2018 mid-terms for the egregious scam they passed to transfer 83% of American tax revenue to the top 1%.
The Republican brand has grown so toxic, its own politicians want nothing to do with it — much less humiliate themselves on behalf of it in the upcoming elections.
There is a time to come and a time to go. This is the right time, for me, to leave politics and return to the justice system. Full statement here → pic.twitter.com/7I8AApqvs1

Though they publicly close ranks behind the Presidon’t, conservatives are running for the exits.
Gowdy can cause at least as much damage on the judiciary, which he plans to do.
However, with our help, Democrats can win historic victories in 2018, hastening the ejection of the worst Republican of all, Donald Trump himself.
