The Super Bowl hasn’t even been played yet – and already players are declaring that they won’t visit the White House should their team pull out a victory in the big game next week.
Super Bowl LII will be played on February 4th in Minneapolis, as the Philadelphia Eagles take on last year’s champions and Donald Trump’s favorite team, the New England Patriots.
Eagles star defensive end Chris Long, who won the Super Bowl with the Patriots last year and caused a stir when he refused to travel to the White House, has announced that he will not be honoring the President with his presence should the Eagles pull out the upset of the century.

“No, I’m not going to the White House. Are you kidding me?” were his exact words to Barstool Sports.
Long is well known for his activism, having promised to donate his entire 2017 salary – a cool million dollars – to charity, giving to a different organization every week.
Long received a torrent of criticism last September when he was one of the few white NFL players to publicly support Colin Kaepernick and other black players in their symbolic protest of the national anthem. He also has founded the Waterboys foundation dedicated to providing clean water to needy communities in East Africa.
It’s hard to see the majority of either team visiting the White House, considering the president spent the past three months waging a culture war against black NFL players and accusing them of being “ungrateful” with their protests against the institutional racism and bigotry that the Trump administration celebrates with their discriminatory policies and rhetoric.
We applaud Chris Long for taking a stand even before the big game is played and salute him for his service to our communities – and wish him the best of luck in the upcoming clash between an Eagles team that leads the league in social activism and the team both beloved by and rostered with Trump supporters.
