Lawmakers and the media are reeling in the wake of the bombshell New York Times revelation that Trump considered firing Mueller last June but only walked it back after White House Counsel Don McGahn threatened to resign over it.
Democratic Senator Corey Booker went on CNN and summed up the whole situation eloquently.

Booker called Trump’s authoritarian tendencies a problem that threatens to destroy the norms of our democracy. He also pointed out that Trump has a tendency to threaten or intimidate those who cross him or seem to threaten his power. That has “authoritarian dictator” written all over it.
According to four sources close to the situation, President Donald Trump ordered the firing of Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller back in June, only one month after he was appointed to investigate the Trump-Russia conspiracy and possible obstruction of justice, exemplified in Trump’s firing of former FBI director James Comey.
Trump only held back when White House Counsel Don McGahn threatened to resign if the president fired Mueller.
In recent months, Mueller’s interviews with White House officials revealed that Trump very nearly had him dismissed, hoping to cite weak accusationsof conflicts of interest.
These revelations serve as hard evidence in Mueller’s obstruction of justice case against the president.
Trump’s lawyers have been trying to placate him for months by telling him that the special counsel’s investigation is just about to wrap up.
The fact that Trump’s legal team has had to lie in order to placate the loose cannon president from sabotaging his own case only proves the allegations in Michael Wolff’s book Fire and Fury that the president is unstable and unfit for his office — not to mention guilty as sin.
Corey Booker said what we’re all thinking, only better when he went on Anderson Cooper’s show on CNN. These revelations coming out of the White House paint the picture of a tin pot dictator desperately trying to do his best impression of a Strongman. The powers that be are starting to catch on, and it’s only a matter of time until the whole thing comes crashing down on Trump.
