Top lawmaker just gave a brilliant alternative to Trump’s wall on Twitter

Trump’s latest attempt at a deal on immigration appears dead on arrival. Democrats and other groups quickly shot down the President’s latest offer in the negotiation over immigration reform.

The White House signaled it would be open to allowing an 8-10 year path to citizenship for 1.8 million Dreamers in exchange for $25 billion for a border wall and substantial cuts to legal immigration.

Democrats and Progressives said “no deal” to this deal, pointing out that it really looks like Trump is holding DACA hostage so that he can gut immigration.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) responded to the whole package on Twitter.

The Chairwoman of the Hispanic Caucus, Rep. Michele Lujan Grisham (D-N.M.) called the whole thing shameful. She called out Trump for using DACA as a bargaining chip.

The immigration fight geared up again early this week after causing a government shutdown over the weekend. The questions of DACA, the fate of the Dreamers, Trump’s border wall delusions, and changes to legal immigration have roiled Congress since before the shutdown.

Negotiations have begun again in earnest, ahead of the March 5 deadline, at which point the Trump administration has signaled it may very well begin deporting Dreamers if a deal hasn’t been reached.

Democrats are fighting tooth and nail to protect the Dreamers, young people brought to this country illegally as children who remain caught in immigration limbo through no fault of their own.

If this is Trump’s opening move in this negotiation, Democrats are in for a fierce battle ahead.
