Trump just made a bizarre Freudian slip during his speech at the March for Life

The president appeared at the March for Life rally today to give a speech to the gathered masses of anti-abortion activists. His facade of faux Christian morality is now something he wears comfortably, the inherent self-righteousness of the character something he clearly enjoys.

This immoral ignoramus, who has paid porn stars hush money to remain silent about extramarital affairs, admitted to sexual assault on tape, and been accused of raping a child, loves getting in front of the microphones and pretending to be a voice for what is right and just.

The misogyny of his anti-abortion rhetoric is plain to see, to say nothing of the rank hypocrisy on display. Does anyone really believe Trump has never paid for or encouraged one of his mistresses to get an abortion? None have come forward yet to claim so, but few would be surprised if it eventually happened.

The content of the speech itself was as regressive and toxic as expected. Trump slammed Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court ruling that has saved the lives of countless women, and allowed them to avoid being shackled to unwanted pregnancies and the lifelong financial and psychological tolls they can exact.

Trump also attacked that favorite conservative zealot bugaboo “late-term abortions.” In reality, as few as 1.3% of abortions occur after the first 21 weeks. 90% occur in the first 13 weeks. In other words, as with most Republican rhetoric, yammering on about late-term abortions is nothing more than a talking point to rile up the base.

Trump then made a strange, borderline nonsensical comment that appeared to be a slip of the tongue:

“Right now in a number of states, the laws allow a baby to be born from his or her mother’s womb in the ninth month. It is wrong, it has to change,” Trump said. Of course, nine months is the normal gestation period for a human child and, unless they’re born premature or late, nine months is exactly when most babies are born.

It appears that Trump may have simply tripped over his own words or gotten confused. Presumably, he was talking about late-term abortions and got his disingenuous talking points muddled. Surely no one could be angry that women are giving birth to their children after nine months. It’s what they’ve been doing since the dawn of the species.

Furthermore, Dr. Aaron B. Caughey, chairman of obstetrics and gynecology at Oregon Health and Science University, previously explained to The New York Times that abortions do not happen at the ninth month mark.

“That is not happening in the United States. It is, of course, such an absurd thing to say. I’m unaware of anyone that’s terminating a pregnancy a few days prior to delivery of a normal pregnancy,” Dr. Caughey said.

Trump also lied and claimed that Americans’ are “more and more” pro-life, which is patently false. America is trending towards becoming more pro-choice.

Add your name to millions demanding Congress take action on the President’s crimes. IMPEACH TRUMP & PENCE!

Banking on the fact that the crowd he was speaking to was at least partially full of religious fanatics and bigots, Trump bragged about his new “religious freedom” rules, which is to say legally codified ways for people to discriminate against people they don’t like.

Moments like today bring into sharp clarity the importance of being civically engaged. Elections have huge consequences. The country elected a proud misogynist, and now he’s pushing for horrifying anti-women legislation. It’s crucial that Democrats seize control of Congress this year to stop him, and boot Trump himself to the curb in 2020.
