Carl Higbie, who was appointed by Trump to be the Chief of External Affairs for the Corporation for National and Community Service, has been forced to resign his position after CNN’s KFILE unearthed incredibly racist, homophobic, and generally hateful comments he made in the past. Higbie is just the latest example of avowed bigotry empowered by Trump and summarily exposed.
During the 2016 election, Higbie was an outspoke Trump booster, and served as the spokesman for the prominent Trump group Great America PAC before going on to lead the federal government’s volunteer service organization after Trump was elected.
His comments are stunning in how proudly bigoted they are.
“I told this story the other day on my show. Somebody who lives in my condo association that has five kids, and it’s her and her husband with the five kids and the mother, the grandmother of the kids, and they don’t have jobs, they’re there all the time — I bet you can guess what color they are — and they have no job,” Higbie said on the radio.

We are long past the point where racist, ignorant comments from the Trump team have the ability to surprise, but they’re still horrifying. These are the people running our government. These are the people empowered by the Republican Party to steer our nation into the 21st century. These are our leaders.

Higbie even advocated for allowing Americans to travel to the Mexican border with guns and legally allowing them to shoot incoming undocumented immigrants. He also hates gay people and is happy to tell his viewers that.
Higbie made numerous other despicable comments. He stated that “blacks” have “lax morals” and said that black women view “breeding” as a way of getting employed by the government. Higbie also made sweeping generalizations that African Americans (a term he dislikes) are lazy and rude.

During a different conversation, Higbie corrected a guest for saying they worked in an urban area. He suggested they say “ghetto” instead.
Higbie is also a violence-fetishizing misogynist:
“Nothing gets me going like Ted Cruz, when he went off on the Feinstein Bitch about the Second Amendment and he put her in her place That was just fantastic. I can’t stand that woman. She’s another one. Her and Pelosi. I’d love to just take both their heads and smack them together a couple of times.
The Trumpist made defamatory comments about Muslims:
“Go back to your Muslim shithole and go crap in your hands and bang little boys on Thursday nights. I just don’t like Muslim people. People always rip me a new one for that. Carl, you’re racist, you can’t, you’re sexist. I’m like Jesus Christ. I just don’t like Muslim people because their ideology sucks,” Higbie said.

The avowed Islamaphobe didn’t stop there:
“Well people are like, ‘well, you can’t hate somebody just for being Muslim,’ It’s like, yeah, I can. Do you hate people who rape little boys? They say, ‘oh, of course. They’re just terrible people.’ Well, yeah, most Muslims believe that to have sex with men is OK, which I don’t like it all. But second off, it’s the ideology of a child molester. The ideology of a Muslim is what I don’t like. They are screwed up in the head and it makes, pisses me off.”
Not content to keep his hate and ignorance to only minority groups, he made disparaging comments about veterans by claiming that PTSD doesn’t really exist. Higbie believes those suffering from the tragic disorder simply have “weak minds.”
A man like this belongs nowhere near the federal government. It’s a blessing that he’s been exposed and ousted, but smart money says that he won’t be the last Trump team member to be outted for making disgusting comments.
