Trump just got terrible news about what Bannon intends to tell Mueller

President Trump may soon regret the harsh and insulting comments he made about ousted and estranged former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon.

NBC News reports that Bannon — who has been subpoenaed to testify before special counsel Robert Mueller as part of the ongoing investigation into possible collusion between the Trump team and Russia — intends to answer any questions that Mueller asks him, according to one source. Axios adds that Bannon “intends to fully cooperate with Mueller.”

The news comes on the tail of yesterday’s revelation that Bannon will be unable to invoke executive privilege during his testimony to Mueller because of the criminal nature of the probe. Yesterday, while testifying in front of the House Intelligence Committee, Bannon repeatedly refused to answer questions, reportedly because the White House instructed him to do so. He invoked executive privilege to justify his refusals.

While the news that “Sloppy Steve” is going to spill it all to Mueller should concern Trump, the reports alone don’t guarantee that the former Breitbart News editor will tell the truth. He has made a career out of lying and helped Trump to get elected in the first place on a wave of misinformation and fear.

That said, if he does indeed lie under oath, that would give Mueller the ability to circle back later and nail him for perjury, giving him another bargaining chip to use to flip Bannon against his former boss. Both eventualities look bad for Trump. Either Bannon reveals all of the campaign’s misdeeds, possibly sinking Trump’s presidency, or he lies about it and sets in motion a future indictment for himself.

Bannon previously said that Trump Jr.’s meeting with Russians inside Trump Tower was “treasonous” and “unpatriotic.” If anyone knows where the rest of the bodies are buried, it’s him. Hopefully, he decides to wise up and give Mueller the truth. The American people deserve it, and it will serve as some small sliver of recompense for the enormous damage the alt-right schemer has already helped inflict on this country.
