Trump just humiliated Melania and Barron while boarding Air Force One

The president is not a decent man. He’s repeatedly demonstrated an utter inability or simply an unwillingness to care about anything beyond his own turgid, unjustified ego. He’s a man who lives to tend to his own craven desires and base instincts.

Last night, Trump showed that his trademark selfishness means he won’t even extend some common courtesy to his own family. While boarding Air Force One to fly back from his umpteenth trip to Mar-a-Lago he hogged an umbrella for himself while his son Barron and First Lady Melania were pelted with harsh winds and rain, reports TMZ.

President Trump didn’t so much as tilt the umbrella to provide some basic cover to Barron and Melania, preferring instead to keep the entire thing to himself to shield his oft-mocked, easily mussed hair.

It was not only an unchivalrous display but a blatantly rude one. What kind of man would choose to shield himself from the elements over his own wife and child? It’s as if he sees his family as props rather than people, accouterments to help fashion an image for himself rather than loved ones that he actually cares about.

A gentleman would have offered the umbrella up or at the very least made sure there were extra umbrellas for his family. He is the president after all. It’s not as if obtaining two more of the simple objects is beyond his immense range of powers. The simple fact seems to be that he just didn’t care enough to request more for his wife and son.

It’s a small gesture but is a clear indication of the lack of moral fiber and basic consideration for others that infests our president. One can’t imagine President Obama doing something like this.
