Maxine Waters just rained on Trump’s parade with huge State of the Union announcement

The fallout from the mushroom cloud of controversy caused by Trump’s disgraceful “shithole” comments last week continues to pile up, as lawmakers have begun to eye new ways to lodge their disapproval of the president’s overtly racist diatribe.

Georgia congressman and civil rights icon John Lewis announced Friday morning that he would be boycotting the upcoming State of the Union address President Trump is set to deliver to a joint session of congress on January 30th. Last night, a prominent Democrat from Los Angeles announced that she would follow suit.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) told MSNBC’s Joy Reid that she would not be a prop in an episode of Trump’s increasingly depraved reality show of a presidency.

“Why would I take my time to go and sit and listen to a liar?” Waters told Reid, who was substituting on “All In” for regular host Christ Hayes.  “Someone who lies in the face of facts, someone who can change their tune day in and day out. What does he have to say that I would be interested in?”

I don’t trust him, I don’t appreciate him and I wouldn’t waste my time … listening to what he has to say,” she continued. “He does not deserve my attention.”

Before the president shot his mouth off at the now infamous West Wing meeting to discuss a compromise on the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, Democrats had already announced a State of the Union protest in support of the #MeToo movement.

Female lawmakers announced they were going to wear black to show solidarity with victims of sexual assault in the work place, much like women of Hollywood did last week at the Golden Globe Awards.  Democrats have also invited sexual assault survivors to attend the event.

As the boycott picks up momentum, though, those acts of defiance may be overshadowed.
