“Some of us want to be shamed!” Kelly explained. “When I was in law school, I was gaining weight, I said to my stepfather, ‘If you see me going into that kitchen one more time, you say, ‘Where you going, fat ass?’ And it works!”

Meghan McCain, daughter of Arizona Senator John McCain (R), did not hold back in her public castigation of the former Fox News host.

“I was publicly fat shammed early on in my career and it sent me to therapy. Trust me, there are real life ramifications for fat shaming of any kind, it is NEVER acceptable. We should be fostering a healthy culture that celebrates all women of all sizes,” McCain wrote.

The feud highlights Kelly’s rough road since departing Fox News. Since the outset of her show on NBC, her ratings have precipitously declined each week. “During her debut week, Kelly’s show was down 12 percent in total viewership from that time slot last year. The second week brought in 24 percent fewer viewers, and the third week saw a 23 percent smaller audience, according to Nielsen data obtained by Variety.”

If nothing else, this feud might actually help Kelly get some eyes on her flailing show.
